This website contains a selection of poetry written by David Marshall, one of the first British volunteers to join the International Brigades in Spain's civil war of 1936-1939. The poetry reflects David's long and eventful life - his upbringing in Middlesbrough, the time spent in Spain in 1936, his period with the British Army in the Second World War and aspects of his life thereafter. Sadly, David died in November 2005. In addition to a book of David's poetry, a CD is available, with readings by Alison Steadman, his partner Marlene Sidaway, and many others.
