My Barge
I
am beginning a journey –
My
last. I shall
never arrive –
I
will be travelling ‘til death.
It
will be a strange, exciting journey
With
friends I have not met before:
And
myself, each day a stranger.
It
is an inevitable voyage,
And
whatever wind, or tide, or water,
Nothing
can deflect it’s purpose.
Most
men go this road unready:
Provisioned
and prepared
I
travel alone, and further.
I
shall never arrive:
I shall be
Later
than many, sooner
than some;
But I will be journeying.
