Commemoration of the 80th anniversary of  the Battle of Caspe in March 1938 during the retreat through Aragón in which the British Battalion and other International Brigade units came under sustained attack. The programme of events is being organised by the local history group Asociación Bajoaragonesa de Agitación y Propaganda.


The annual international Battle of Jarama commemoration will take place on Saturday 17 February 2018.

Book launch of ‘Culture as Politics – Selected Writings of Christopher Caudwell’ edited by David Margolies (Pluto Press); 7pm at the Marx Memorial Library, 37a Clerkenwell Green, London EC1R 0DU. Caudwell was a novelist, poet and Marxist philosopher, who was killed at Jarama in February 1937 while fighting with the British Battalion.

‘¡Buenos Días Dictador!’, a new exhibition of works by artist Sonia Boué about the Spanish Civil War, in particular a response to the years of exile suffered by many Spanish Republicans and their families; at the Old Fire Station, 40 George Street, Oxford OX1 2AQ; opening hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-6pm.

Artist Amy Feneck presents her book ‘A Gentle Visual Fire’ about the Spanish Civil War photographic collections in the archives at the Marx Memorial Library, including readings from the book and a conversation between Amy Feneck and Gareth Evans, film curator at the Whitechapel Gallery; 7pm-8.30pm at the Marx Memorial Library, 37a Clerkenwell Green, London, EC1R 0DU. Drinks will be served and the book has a special launch price of £5 (normally £7.50).
